Tonight's Homework

Rounding trouble?  You may have to use scientific notation on a few of these.  If you are rounding to TWO digits then you look at the 3rd significant digit (from the left) to decide if the second digit stays the same or rounds up.  Ex.   5.067  would round to 5.1 if I were asked for only 2 significant figures.

Dimensional Analysis -
1.  Set up your unit following the format below.

    given  x  unknown  = unknown
                    given

2.  Write a 1 beside the larger unit in the conversion factor. It may be in the top or bottom of the fraction.

3.  Look at your metric prefix scale (number line) and count how many spaces the unit prefixes are apart.
kilo to centi  is 5 spaces apart so write 10^5 beside centi because it is the smaller unit.
micro to milli is 3 spaces so write 1000 beside micro because it is the smaller unit.

4. SOLVE! Use your calculator if you need to. Multiply the given by the value on top of the fraction and then divide by the value on the bottom of the fraction.

Answers 1. 0.056 L  3. 1.2 x 10^-4 or 0.000 12 cg  5. 430 L

PTSO night

Welcome back Parents - Aug 29th.  Mark your calendars and get a copy of your kids schedule as well as their tips about getting from place to place.  (There will be schedules here if needed.) While there is never enough time to finish conversations that night I always look forward to meeting parents. And as a parent it always helps to "walk in their shoes" for a brief time. If you have to miss for some reason I'd love to get an email at frchambers@spart7.org so that we start a line of communication. I want every student to know that we are working together to give them every chance to succeed.

6:00 - 6:20                   Parents first period and receive schedules.
            6:24 - 6:34                   2nd period
            6:38 - 6:48                   3rd period
            6:52 – 7:02                  4th period
            7:06 – 7:16                  5th period
            7:20 - 7:30                   6th period
            7:34 - 7:44                   7th period

Quizlet

I love Quizlet.com  If you haven't visited to study another subject then you really ought to try it for chemistry.  I have embedded a set of metric system flash cards in "learn" mode for you to practice with - especially if you don't have your 100 quiz grade yet. (Check the extra practice page.)  Remember you have until Friday to keep trying for a perfect score.

First Day!

First day information packets are a lot of work, but please take your time and check them. The "parent signature sheet" has a place on the back to sign. Please pay special attention to blue medical cards as well.  Thank you! I know this is not your favorite part of the first day!
